What is STRIKKET! ??
STRIKKET! is inspired by landscape and people of Stad Kommune, Vestland, rural west coast of Norway, who share their love, generosity, and creativity through handmade knits. In this time of unprecedented isolation, STRIKKET! seeks to link this vibrant community with the creative potential of individuals from around the world. STRIKKET! is all about symbiosis, between rural and urban, traditional and modern, innovation and sustainability.
German fashion designer and educator Julia Kröner Venø, together with her Norwegian artist husband Bjørn Venø, are the founders and organizers of the rural arts organization Venø Gård KUNST, which hosted the event with Julia serving as artistic director. Venø Gård KUNST promotes alternative perspectives and creative exploration within the rural domain.
Our story
At the height of the pandemic, Julia and Bjørn and their two young children relocated from the United States to the remote island of Venøya in Stad Kommune. They have dedicated themselves to create a variety of cultural offerings for the region, the people and beyond.
The Experience
It will be immersive and creative. The local band Spöt celebrated Norwegian folklore music with traditional and experimental arrangements for the catwalk show. Attendees will experience art installations, art projections and a performative catwalk show featuring work from knitters in the community, many of them in their 90s, and creations by residents, in collaboration with Julia and international designers and makers.
Julia is a fashion educator, fashion designer, pattern cutter and ladies’ tailor. In 2003 she was chosen as Germany’s Best Junior Ladies’ Tailor. Straight after her tailor’s apprenticeship she worked for the Bavarian State Opera before taking up her studies in Düsseldorf to become a professional pattern maker. She decided to move to London to commence her fashion studies; first at the Italian fashion school ‘Istituto Marangoni’, then at the ‘London College of Fashion’ for her Master studies. She graduated as Master of Arts -Fashion Design and Technology, Pathway Womenswear in 2007. Julia had the opportunity to work as a costume maker for the Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre before entering the professional fashion industry. Julia worked for celebrity designer Giles Deacon right after graduation and Hardy Amies in Savile Row, royal warrant holder as designer to the queen. Many more fashion brands followed such as Mary Katrantzou and Victoria Beckham as well as high street brands such as Topshop and Karen Millen; all based in London. Julia was offered a full time position as Professor of Fashion at SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) in Atlanta, Georgia, USA in 2015.
Julia returned to Europe in July 2020 with her husband and 2 small children to the beautiful island Venøya, on the west coast of Norway. Julia’s intention is to use her international experience and strong clothing expertise to create meaningful work that will benefit the region and beyond. Julia and her artist husband Bjørn Venø are working on various projects that have the potential to question the current value system to encourage alternative perspectives and exploration.
Melanie’s journey includes business, styling, design and pattern cutting with more than ten years of experience in the fashion industry since graduating from London College of Fashion in 2008, followed by a Postgraduate Certificate in Pattern Cutting 2011. She is also carrying a Master Degree in Business Administration 2003.
Her fashion journey spans from the luxury to the high street industry, working for brands, e.g., McQ by Alexander McQueen*, Burberry*, Ozwald Boateng*, Ute Ploier, Topman, ASOS, Victoria Beckham and Story mfg.

Stig Ove, nr 3 vart utsatt for drukningsulykke i 1997.

Rahul has a background and extensive experience in the fashion industry, with the current focus on digital and 3D technology. He believes that technology solves not only problems, it can also harness creativity and open new avenues for experimentation.
I am a freshwater biologist living and working in Tromsø. I love being outside, you will often find me either skiing in the mountains or freediving in the ocean. At the end of the day or when the weather calls for indoor activities I will often be knitting. During the Corona pandemic me and my friends started a knitting account on Instagram, just for fun. We mainly focus on our mistakes and what we do not understand in the knitting world, we are called @errorstrikk.
Tekstil:
- Sying: Har syd Nordfjord - bunader og mange kystdrakter.
- Sydde kle til heile familien
- Veving: Har vevd nokre åkle.
Trearbeid:

Landsted i Selje.
Syr kostymes i Opera Nordfjord.

Kate Barton is an emerging American fashion designer advancing unique approaches to evening wear. She focuses on creating womenswear that is both sculptural and innovative while still being wearable and empowering. With an emphasis on innovation through two techniques, acrylic thermoforming and fabric manipulation cutting methods, her designs remain true to her aesthetic of elegance and sophistication, while exposing modern, bold details. The silhouettes used in her collections continually push the exploration of 3-dimensional shapes while infusing contrasting elements to create emphasis and detail. She feels it’s important to have a balance between creating art and making the person feel beautiful in the garment.
Fine Artist Karen Chow doesn’t seem to belong to the world of you or me. She’s a never grown-up, a daydreamer, a fantasist. Her works are exciting, telling stories conjured directly from an imagination that most of us left behind in childhood. Confronting fundamental feelings, relationships, and how she perceives her surrounding, Karen explores the parallels of worlds throughout various dimensions by creating an existence in the absence either in her manipulated door installations that include an explosion of textures, materials of external memorabilia or through her drawings, writings, and sculpture-like wearable arts remind us of our own capacity to dream and the bridge towards reality.
Growing up in a small town, Jillian Hartman never did fit in with anyone due to her hearing disability. She learned how to knit and sew as way to express herself and use that as a creative outlet growing up. Fashion has given confidence ever since. She wants to empower others that everyone can be a part of the fashion world no matter who they are, because fashion allows them to express however or whoever they want to be.
J Baker is a textile-based artist local to Chattanooga, Tennessee. She have been working both independently and collaboratively with other local artists in her area since graduating from SCAD Atlanta in 2018 with a degree in Fashion Design. J's specialties are knitting and wire-sculpting: a combination, which has transcended the basic idea of knitwear as clothing and allowed their use of the medium to evolve into more malleable, three-dimensional shapes, while maintaining its potential for vibrant color, intricacy, and unique, hand-woven stories.

Karina Siegmund (1979) lives and works in Stadlandet, Sogn og Fjordane. She has a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Bergen Academy of Art and Design, and an education in textile design from Kunsthochschule Berlin Weißensee. The artist has garnered great praise for her work and has participated in exhibits at home and abroad. In 2012 she exhibited at the Talente 2012 art fair in München and was awarded «The Talente Award for Best International Textile Art for emerging artists under the age of 33». Here at home, she has exhibited at the National Museum of Art in Oslo, Sogn og Fjordane Art Museum, and Vevringutstillinga, among others.
Siegmund gathers impressions from nature, via photography, video, and sound and light studies, and uses them as pattern-making elements in the tapestry through digital weaving technology.
Siegmund’s goal is to explore a new idiom in which the materials’ form-giving and functional qualities, combined with electronic elements like light and sound, give the observer a sense of being embraced by a tapestry installation: a woven landscape that speaks to our senses. // by: 2020 Sogn og Fjordane Art Museum https://sfkm.no/en/home/

Deep Redux: Journey into Dreamtopia Collection Statement
Hector Diaz “Kurriizma”
Deep Redux reflects the mind, looking back (Deep) and rethinking about all the Dreams and Ideas I had (Redux). Throughout the pandemic, I found myself constantly reflecting and looking back into the previous dreams and idea I had as a designer. I wanted to "Rethink" or "Redux" the way I make clothing and truly redefine the meaning behind why I create. Clothing is simply a reflection of the unconscious mind given form. I saw my dreams as a form that awaited the knot to be tied down into reality. Through my experience I came up with a process I call: "Dream Weaving." It is the idea of taking 2nd hand clothing and garments, cutting them down to strips, using these strips to weave on a hedge loom, and creating a new textile out of it in the process. Within my entire collection, I made it personal as it was designed to reflect my dreams, all crafted from my hands, having no specific form, or gender, this collection is simply a "Dream come true."

Immediately after graduating she designed luxury loungewear for Dayo Women. Ruoyan Er is a fashion designer, knitter, illustrator, stylist, and hand craft blogger. Currently she lives in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.
Ruoyan graduated from The College of Art and Design, Beijing University of Technology in the fall of 2017; she majored in fashion and costume design with a BFA degree. It is famous for its rediscovery of the Silk Road and its publication after a long period of cultural research and development in northwest China.
She believes that everything should have a trace. For her, knitting is the best way to combine and compress memories together. For her own description, she is a chronicler of stories. She has a strong capacity for empathy, so the topic of her design is often about recording the life experiences of others. Her work is focused on recording other people's stories, adding her own understanding, adding details and emotional expression, and sublimating them.
Ruoyan has traveled to many cities and met many people, she wrote many stories and did many projects. She felt that she was a bystander in the world, that feelings were the best and most fleeting things in the world, and she wanted to keep them.
Ruoyan has rich experience in styling and photographing artists, as well as in designing clothing, no matter what style and what means of communication. Ruoyan majors in the knitting direction, and she believes that the texture of fibers is a channel to connect the microcosm and the macrocosm, a bridge to record the story of the dialogue between the past and the future. Ruoyan's hobbies are rock music and knitting. She feels that both were ways of talking to her soul. When one is immersed in pure rhythm and repetitive movements, the whole world falls silent.

Geir vaks opp i Årvik saman med mor, far, to brør og to søstre.
